  • A journal classifies as "EJL-equivalent" if (A) it is included in the (Social) Science Citation Index and (B) its impact factor (averaged over the last five years) is such that it ranks in the highest quartile of its main ISI Subject Category.
  • All publications in the categories (1) - (3) should be in international (English-language) media and should be subject to peer review.

Criteria for faculty with a part-time academic position

We distinguish three part-timer categories based on the average size of total university appointment during the latest five years. 3
Appointment size category (averaged over latest 5 years):
  • >= 0,8 fte
  • >= 0,4 fte and < 0,8 fte
  • < 0,4 fte

The Membership criteria for these three categories are as follows:
  • Regular criteria as specified above.
  • Regular criteria as specified above, except that the minimum number of publications is four, and the maximum number of publications in category (2) is two.
  • Regular criteria as specified above, except that the minimum number of publications is three, the maximum number of publications in category (2) is one, and the maximum number of publications in category (3) is one.

Tasks

  • Carrying out and disseminating high quality research in the domain of research in management
  • (Co-) supervising of ERIM PhD students
  • Contributing to the ERIM PhD programme

Benefits

  • An ERIM Member receives a research voucher from the Dean of his/her School. At ESE the vouchers are contained in the department budget. At RSM the Dean allocates a research voucher of 0.4 of the size of the appointment at RSM to each individual ERIM member.
  • "High-Performing" ERIM members who, over the last five years, have at least three publications in EJL journals rated P*, or at least five publications in EJL journals rated (at least) P are entitled to extra benefits. 4 For example, in RSM Erasmus University they receive a research voucher of 0.6 of the size of their appointment at RSM.
  • An ERIM Member is eligible to the ERIM Support Programmes that offer financial support for research-related activities (see brochure: ERIM Support Programmes).
  • An ERIM Member can call on the ERIM Office for support and advice with respect to all possible activities that have the purpose of enhancing the quality and quantity of research in management (e.g. applications for external funding, use of the international ERIM network with other research schools, etc.).

Application and Evaluation Procedure

  • The application for a new ERIM Membership should be submitted to the Scientific Director of ERIM through one of the ERIM Fellows of the ERIM Research Programme where the Member will do the research (see next).
  • The Scientific Director decides on the membership. If the member is accepted, this will be communicated in an official letter to the Fellow who submitted the application, with a copy to the Dean of the School, to the Department chair and to the new ERIM Member.
  • An ERIM Member reports his/her output to ERIM (typically by means of registering his/her output in the MyERIM Publication system). ERIM makes an annual evaluation in March/April based on the output of the previous five calendar years. If a Member has not been able to meet the ERIM Membership criteria he/she will receive a warning (with a copy to the Fellows of the research programme the member is affiliated to and to the Department chair). If a Member has not been able to meet the ERIM Membership criteria for two consecutive years, he/she will lose the ERIM Membership status.

Footnotes:

1:

To create continuity in the research programs, faculty of EUR must participate actively with apparent results for a dense period of at least two years. This participation is irrespective of the formal status and extension of their personnel contract at the EUR (temporary or permanent contract).

2:

For new recruitments, the requirement of a minimum of 2 EJL (max. 3 EJL-equivalent) publications in the latest five years for becoming an ERIM member might form an unwanted block for hiring really outstanding scholars from outside the research in management field (e.g., an economist, econometrician, psychologist, engineer). A request for departing from this requirement will be decided upon per dossier by the Scientific Director of ERIM. At least two fellows of the research program have to support this request. Main criteria will be the number and quality of the publications in the originating field, and the applicant’s plan and commitment to focus his/her research on research in management by starting to publish regularly in EJL journals.

3:

Total appointment is defined as the appointment size at EUR + appointment size at other universities.

4:

Exactly the same criteria apply for ERIM Members with a part-time academic position.
