Selection Procedure

Since the number of applicants to the PhD in Management usually exceeds the number of available PhD positions on a yearly basis, new PhD candidates have to be selected.

Upon receipt of the printed ERIM Doctoral Programme Application Form, including all required documents (see above), the ERIM Office checks if the applicant meets the initial requirements with regard to education and test results. If so, the applicant's file will be sent to the supervisor(s) of the project of first choice (which is indicated on the ERIM Doctoral Programme Application Form). These supervisors then have to assess whether the applicant is a suitable candidate for the project. If they are interested in having the applicant as a candidate they will have to write a letter of recommendation to the ERIM management. If the potential supervisors are not interested, the applicant's file will be sent to the supervisor(s) of the project of second choice, and so on.

Finally, the ERIM management decides on which of the recommended candidates will be appointed. Please note that this will only be done after the application deadline. This means that the results of the selection procedure will be available approximately two months after the application deadline. All applicants will be notified on the results of their application as soon as the official decision had been made. It is therefore not necessary to contact the Doctoral Office for updates on the status of one's application.
