ERIM Early Career Talent programme
Philosophy of the Programme
ERIM“s aim is to invest in young, talented, international researchers with the potential for intellectual leadership needed for the future development of the field of Research in Management. The goal of this new programme is to increase top quality scientific output and to improve productivity and viability by investing in young academics. Through the programme, RSM and ESE are expected to be more competitive on the international job market for top PhD graduates. Our aim is to invest in young, talented, international researchers with the potential for intellectual leadership needed for the future development of the field of Research in Management. The programme is designed to serve highly qualified, young talents wishing to conduct rigorous academic research. The postdoctoral fellows will move research in the area of management an important step forward by producing significant results.
The main characteristics of the ERIM Early Career Talent Programme are:
- It is fully integrated with faculty/departmental policy in hiring new junior faculty with a high research potential.
- Applicants selected for this programme are hired for 4 years as assistant professor and are provided with an extra research voucher. Whereas a regular ERIM (associate) member would receive an 0.4 research voucher, the researchers in this programme receive 0.8; 0.7 ; 0.6 and 0.6 research voucher, respectively. They are thus given a light teaching load in the beginning of their career, but they gradually also develop their teaching skills which is important for their future job market value.
- The research voucher is fully funded by ERIM; the department provides the remaining teaching voucher, thus ensuring commitment on part of the department in hiring and coaching their talented faculty. Basically, we expect that after 4 years, these young academics will have published enough to acquire the ERIM High Performing Member status with a 0.6 research voucher. We expect departments to be willing to hire these talents permanently as associate professor, in particular if they have been successful at acquiring external grants (submitting grant proposals is a requirement in the programme).
- For innovative research areas, ERIM is also willing to employ talents in this programme. In this way, it shares the risk with the department for truly innovative research topics.
- The selection procedure is a combined decision by ERIM and the department. Selections are based on the regular evidence (CV, publications, academic recommendation letters, a research seminar etc.).
Postdoctoral Talent fellows have autonomy in conducting their research and are encouraged to explore new multidisciplinary lines of research of an international standing and importance in the field of research in management.
ERIM provides the fellows with an adequate range of facilities like office space, secretarial assistance, research facilities and library facilities, help in finding suitable living accommodation, legal/fiscal and social hosting. A fellowship includes an internationally competitive salary and an investment budget for the research activities. The Netherlands offers a preferential tax treatment for international researchers. International travel expenses are reimbursed.
The programme creates lots of opportunities to further personal intellectual fulfillment and an exciting international academic career.
