SCALES is a long-term research program carried out by EIM and funded by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. The program – the full name of which is SCientific AnaLysis of Entrepreneurship and SMEs – focuses on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurship. The SCALES seminar dealt with national and international trends in entrepreneurship, and two research projects were presented.

Sander Wennekers: Why are some countries more entrepreneurial than others?

Wennekers followed a non-typical process to publish his PhD thesis. Wennekers is affiliated with EIM Business & Policy Research, an independent research and consultancy organization where he is in charge of the Research Program on SMEs and Entrepreneurship. Wennekers was a special PhD candidate, since he is experienced in both research and the field of entrepreneurship. He participates in many professional organizations, and is a member of the Research Committee of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor.
