The strategic value of the Port of Rotterdam for the international competitiveness of the Netherlands
By itself, the economic importance of the Port of Rotterdam (which in this text means the entire Rotterdam port and industrial area) is impressive enough. The direct and indirect added value jointly are about €22 billion. The Port also provides jobs to some 145,000 people in direct and indirect employment. Remarkable as all of this may sound, the Port’s significance for the Dutch economy turns out to be even considerably greater than first thought. That is shown by the research led by Prof.dr. Frans van den Bosch of Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.
