Melek Akin Ates is awarded the DSI Conference 2011 Best Student Paper Prize At the Decision Sciences 2011 conference in Boston (USA), the Best Student Paper Prize was presented to Melek Akin Ates for her paper titled "The link between purchasing strategy and purchasing structure".

Prof. Takahiro Fujimoto of Tokyo University visits PSM On September 6th, 2011, PSM welcomed Prof. Takahiro Fujimoto and his colleagues Mr. Inamizu, Mr. Fukuzawa, and Mr. Mukai at RSM. The two teams held meetings to discuss common research interests and current supply chain issues.

Erik van Raaij receives Chris Voss Highly Commended Award At the EurOMA 2011 conference in Cambridge (UK), the Chris Voss Highly Commended Award was presented to Erik van Raaij for his paper with Katri Karjalainen, Alistair Brandon-Jones and Stefano Ronchi, titled "Electronic purchasing tools and purchasing absorptive capacity as antecedents of purchasing category performance".

Finn Wynstra awarded for article on purchasing value The Editorial Board of the Journal of Business-to-Business Marketing has voted "Purchasing Higher-Value, Higher-Price Offerings in Business Markets" by James C. Anderson and Finn Wynstra as Outstanding Article of the Year for 2010.

Special guest lecture at RSM On Saturday 5 February 2011, the EMBA 11 students followed a lecture given by CPO of the year 2008. MR. Ton Geurts, Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) of Dutch mutinational AkzoNobel, gave a lecture for the course Operations Management (by Professors Rene de Koster en Finn Wynstra) at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.

Mathijs Eefting wins NEVI InkoopScriptieprijs 2010 For the third year in a row, a student from RSM has won the Nevi Inkoopscriptieprijs. This is an award for the best Master thesis in the area of Purchasing & Supply Management, written at a Dutch university. The winner of the Nevi Inkoopscriptieprijs 2010 is Mathijs Eefting, with his thesis titled “Socially Responsible Purchasing and Firm Benefits”.

Erik van Raaij attends IPPC2010 conference Erik van Raaij attended the International Public Procurement Conference (IPPC) 2010 in Seoul, South Korea, which took place from August 26th to 28th. The conference attracted some 400 academics and practitioners from 57 different countries. Together with co-author Katri Karjalainen from Manchester Business School, Erik presented a paper titled "Factors Contributing to Different Forms of Maverick Buying: An Empirical Test in the Government of Finland".

Erik van Raaij and Finn Wynstra win funding for research into healthcare purchasing and service procurement Erik van Raaij and Finn Wynstra have won funding totalling 680,000 Euros to study the purchase of healthcare, and the design and delivery of procured business services.

External research funding granted to Erik van Raaij and Finn Wynstra Erik van Raaij and Finn Wynstra have recently been successful in applying for external research funding. Their respective proposals "Performance in Healthcare Purchasing" and "Service design and delivery in service triads", have each been awarded 340.000 euro by the research foundation of the Dutch Association for Purchasing Management (NEVI). These projects will each involve three PhD projects and research by faculty involved over the next 4-5 years. The first project has been jointly developed with colleagues from Institute of Health Policy & Management (iBMG/EUR) and University of Twente. The second project has been developed with colleagues from University of Twente and Eindhoven University of Technology.

Erik van Raaij organizes Ipsera2010 Doctoral Workshop On Sunday, 16 May, the Ipsera2010 Doctoral Workshop took place at Lappeenranta University of Technology. For the second year in a row, the workshop was organized by Erik van Raaij. The objectives of the workshop are twofold: For PhD candidates to receive feedback on their research proposals, and to build a network with fellow PhD candidates as well as with senior faculty.

PSM@RSM Network meeting 21st of April On the 21st of April, 2010, the Purchasing and Supply Management Centre had the pleasure to host the PSM@RSM network meeting, which was attended by high level purchasing professionals, current students, and alumni of the RSM. At the top floor of the H-building, presentations were held about outcomes of recently finished research, new educational activities, and plans for future research. Two PhD candidates presented their research proposals. Also, alumni shared their first experiences in the field of purchasing. The meeting was concluded by speakers of Benefit Inkoop adviesgroep with a presentation of procurement in the health care sector. Afterwards, the discussions continued over drinks. We would like to thank the participants for joining the discussions and we look forward to welcoming everyone again next year.

Kamala Vuthilertdacha Kamala Vuthilertdacha wins NEVI InkoopScriptieprijs 2009 For the second year in a row, a student from RSM has won the Nevi Inkoopscriptieprijs. This is an award for the best Master thesis in the area of Purchasing & Supply Management, written at a Dutch university. The winner of the Nevi Inkoopscriptieprijs 2009 is Kamala Vuthilertdacha, former student in the IM-CEMS program, with her thesis titled “Suppler Compliance with Supplier Codes of Conduct: The case of electronics and automotive component manufacturers in Thailand”.

The meeting will take place in Udine (Italy).

Prof. Thomas Choi at Erasmus University Rotterdam A network is made up of nodes and links. The smallest unit that consists of both of these network elements is a dyad made up of two nodes (a buyer and a supplier) and the link that connects them (a buyer-supplier relationship). Naturally, the focus of the supply chain management literature has been on this dyad. However, we argue that a dyad is not the smallest unit of a network. In fact, the smallest unit is a triad, made up of three nodes and three links.

Conference paper Erik van Raaij selected for Best Paper Proceedings A conference paper by Dr. Erik van Raaij, with the title "Supplier perceived fairness of electronic reverse auctions" has been selected for the Best Paper Proceedings of the Academy of Management Annual Meeting in Chicago (7-11 August 2009). The paper is co-authored with Dr. Marjolien Caniëls of the Open University of the Netherlands. Only the best 10 percent of accepted papers is selected for the Best Paper Proceedings.

Katri Karjalainen successfully defends PhD thesis On 22 May 2009, Katri Karjalainen successfully defended her PhD thesis, titled “Challenges of purchasing centralization: empirical evidence from public procurement”, at Helsinki School of Economics. Opponent for the defense was Prof. dr. Björn Axelsson from Stockholm School of Economics, and the thesis was supervised by Dr. Katariina Kemppainen from Helsinki School of Economics and Dr. Erik van Raaij from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.

Melek Akin wins NEVI InkoopScriptieprijs 2008 The NEVI InkoopScriptieprijs 2008 has been awarded to Melek Akin for her master thesis, entitled ´The Impact of Supply Chain Related Factors on the Environmental Performance of Firms’. Melek Akin wrote her master thesis as part of the MScBA Supply Chain Management at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. She graduated in August 2008: her Master thesis coach was Dr. Jacqueline Bloemhof, and her co-reader was Prof. Finn Wynstra.
