Thesis title:
Virtual Teaming in the New World of Work: A case study at Microsoft Nederland B.V

Description:
The virtual team is a non – organizational unit that has been introduced by most organizations and adopted by most employees during the last decade. The use of ICT and the workplace mobility are two of the major dimensions of this alternative work practice. Researchers have tried to identify its characteristics and their impact on performance mostly by comparing virtual to traditional teams and conducting experiments with ad hoc teams of students. The contribution of this study relies mostly on two outcomes. One is the verification of previous research findings in a real operating organization and the other is the identification of the factors influencing team effectiveness in a virtual environment. The results suggest that virtual can be also teams operating within the same building, while the trust, the members’ flexibility, as well as, the workplace are important dimensions for the virtual team effectiveness. Moreover, the results of this study are expected to offer a better insight regarding the collaboration among virtual team members and be used in future research, as well as a base for managers and organizations trying to create and manage effective virtual teams.
