Thesis title:
Finding The Balance: Ecological Behavior, Work-Life Balance, and Productivity.

Description:
Ecological sustainability has become an integral part of the strategy of most businesses nowadays, as climate change is driving countries, companies, and individuals into considering their impact on the planet. Taking the individuals’ perspective, numerous researchers have provided insight into various ecological behaviors in different domains such as traveling, products and services consumption, purchasing, recycling, resource saving, and so forth. However it is further interesting to take the standpoint of ecological behavior related to the workplace. Therefore the main contribution of the current study lies within this domain with two major focuses: individuals’ motivation for ecological behavior and how to balance the effects of the latter on work dimensions such as work productivity and work-life balance. The research results suggest above average self-determination to act with regard to the ecology relates to ecological commuting behavior, working virtually, paper saving. Further, more sustainable ways of organizing a work day such as working virtually from home or using public transport provide for a certain increase in work productivity. Nevertheless while the former, provides for an improved work-life balance as well, the latter does not lead to a better balance between work and personal life.
