Management and organisation of non-standard employment

Over the past two decades the share of contingent and temporary employees has grown rapidly. Temporary staff performs core activities and high skill contractors work at key position in organizations, often side by side with regular employees. With its growing prevalence, the organization of temporary work and management of a blended workforce have become significant management issues for many organizations. What HR practices are important for which employees? How are performance management systems used with temporary employees? How do arm’s length employment relationships affect employee commitment and trust?  How do organizations, employment intermediaries and employees deal with issues of individual and organisational learning and development? What practices support sustainable employment communities? These questions reflect how employment flexibility affects HR and creates new challenges and opportunities for Human Resources Management and the organisation of employment. In this research program we address these questions documenting the growing experience in this area and contributing to the emerging research on durable solutions for the organisation and management of temporary work.
