Best value procurement at healthcare insurer Achmea

Best value procurement at healthcare insurer Achmea

Late September Achmea announced that it would employ best value procurement to purchase healthcare from 9 Dutch hospitals. These hospitals have been selected based on a pilot being run using best value procurement practices and will receive a 3-year contract rather than the standard 1-year contract. The best value procurement initiative is lead by Peter Dohmen, a part-time PhD candidate at the PSM group. A press release (in Dutch) on the project can be found here.

To commemorate the awarding of the contracts, Achmea organised a mini-symposium on best value procurement and its application in the purchasing of healthcare. At this symposium Prof. Dr. Dean Kashiwagi talked about best value procurement, Dr. Erik van Raaij discussed purchasing of healthcare and Peter Dohmen together with his team presented the results of the best value procurement pilot.

In order to share this innovation with Dutch purchasing professionals, Dr. Erik van Raaij, Peter Dohmen and Jeroen van de Rijt published an article in Deal!, a monthly magazine of the Dutch purchasing organisation NEVI. The Deal! article (in Dutch) can be found here.
