George Terberg

After graduating from Erasmus University in Rotterdam in 1977, George Terberg started his career at Terberg Benschop B.V. in 1978 as a salesman for Terberg tipper trucks to the Dutch construction industry. In the late 1980s he started to build up a distributor network for Terberg terminal and RoRo tractors. These units are used together with trailers to transport heavy cargo in ports, distribution centres, heavy industry and airports. In this niche market Terberg has become the worldwide market leader (excluding the USA) and is now represented in over 100 countries. In 2011 Mr Terberg was appointed chairman of the Terberg Group. The Group is an automotive industry holding company with the following divisions: special vehicles, environmental, modification, truck mounted forklift trucks and car and van leasing (B2B and B2C).

The Terberg Group currently has some 2,400 employees, the majority of whom work outside the Netherlands, in the UK, Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Poland, Dubai, Malaysia, Brazil and the USA. The Terberg family business started in 1869 as a village blacksmith's shop in Benschop and until WW II this was the only activity. Under the third generation, diversification after the war started with modifying US Army trucks. This led to the production of the first Terberg truck in 1966 and the first Terberg terminal tractor in 1973. In that period Terberg also operated car dealerships (VW, Opel, Peugeot, Mercedes and Ford), which were sold in 2007. Modification of standard trucks to specials and modification of cars and vans for specific purposes is also a key activity. Terberg Leasing was established in 1970 and is now one of the top-10 players in the Dutch market with a fleet of around 22,000 cars. The Terberg family has a 76% interest in Terberg Leasing. In 2016 Terberg took a majority stake in the RosRoca Group (1,200 employees) and is now one of the leading manufacturers in Europe of waste collection equipment for the waste and recycling industry. The other Terberg companies are fully owned by the Terberg family. The business is currently managed by the fourth generation of the Terberg family and the intention is that the fifth generation will gradually joining the operations.
