23rd IFPSM/IPSERA PSM Summer School in Rotterdam

On 26-29 June, the Rotterdam School of Management (Netherlands) has been hosting the Purchasing and Supply Management Summer School, in collaboration with the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM) and the International Purchasing and Supply Education and Research Association (IPSERA); https://www.erim.eur.nl/doctoral-programme/courses/summer-school/3390/.

The PSM Summer School, this year into its 23rd edition, was especially aimed at early-stage doctoral students, or junior faculty that is transitioning into the PSM research domain.

During six sessions, we discussed a number of theories from domains such as Strategy & Organisation, Marketing and Operations Management, and how these could be applied to PSM phenomena and research. Theories included the industrial network approach, systems theory, transaction-cost economics and the resource-based view of the firm, to name just a few.

Faculty consisted of Asta Salmi (Lappeenranta), Martin Spring (Lancaster), John Gray (OSU), Merieke Stevens (RSM) and Finn Wynstra (RSM), who also acted as host and coordinator. There were 14 participants from 10 different countries, including Uganda and the USA. Doctoral students earned 3 ects course credits.

Thanks to our sponsors, IFPSM, IPSERA and the Dutch Assocation for Purchasing Mangement (NEVI), we were able to offer participants social events, including two dinners and a boat tour through the Rotterdam port. In 2019, we plan to host the 24th edition of the IFPSM/IPSERA PSM Summer School; please contact Finn Wynstra for further information.
