Reducing Bus Bunching

Speaker

Abstract

Buses have a tendency to bunch as they travel a circular route.  The result is poor service and waste of capacity.  The cause of bunching can be viewed as the natural consequence of poor dynamics.  We will describe ongoing research in how to apply simple rules to add "good" dynamics to the system.  This will help make the system self-balancing, so that buses space themselves apart.
