Erasmus Centre for Emerging Markets: "Successfully Managing Subsidiaries into and out of Emerging Economies"

Abstract

Erasmus Centre for Emerging Markets (ECEM)
Start-up Workshop to be held on 10 June 2010

The Erasmus Centre for Emerging Markets (ECEM), is an initiative of Rotterdam School of Management in collaboration with Institute of Housing Studies and the International Institute of Social Studies, all at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Prof. dr. George Yip, Dean of Rotterdam School of Management and Chairperson of the ECEM has the honour of inviting you to an exclusive meeting on:

"Successfully Managing Subsidiaries into and out of Emerging Economies"

The event focuses on managing subsidiaries across the boundaries between developed and emerging economies such as Brazil, China and India.

The quality of relationships between subsidiaries and corporate HQ’s is vital for achieving good performance. Managing subsidiaries into and out of emerging economies is a challenge due to fundamental differences in business practice. Corporations from developed economies wrestle with issues of risk, uncertainty, governance, alignment, regulatory framework and cost-structure and human resource management when setting up subsidiaries in emerging economies. Emerging economy companies face challenges of consolidating the company identity and image in foreign markets, compliance and alignment of acquired companies from developed countries, and developing sustainable project in foreign markets.

You are invited to discuss these issues with a group of peers and scholars in the field of strategy and international business. At this start-up meeting with the Erasmus Centre for Emerging Markets, there will be a discussion on the focus areas and the future activities of the Centre.
