Abstract

This seminar is about sharing experiences of gathering qualitative data in emerging and established markets, generating insights based on information provided by middle level / subsidiary managers, and packaging novel, sometimes controversial insights for a leading managerial journal. The challenges encountered in the R&R process will be discussed. In the paper we trace MNEs' success at competing in a set of heterogeneous emerging markets with very different institutional landscapes and at simultaneously mastering global corporate challenges. We uncover sensing local opportunities, enacting global complementarities, and appropriating local value as the three key capabilities that form the foundations of strategic agility.

The ERIM Phd Seminar Series are dedicated to enhance the methodological dialogue between PhDs and are organised by the ERIM PhD Council.
