Abstract

In this seminar, Robert Davison explores the key issue of relevance in applied research and explains why it is important that the research we do is relevant for the audience. He compares relevance with rigor and seeks to identify ways in which research can be both rigorous and relevant. As he demonstrates, keeping the research context firmly in view is a key component of relevance. The seminar is designed as a workshop – active participation from the audience is welcome. Questions relating to current research work will be particularly appreciated.

Biography
Robert Davison is a Professor of Information Systems at the City University of Hong Kong. Professionally, Robert serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Electronic Journal of Information Systems in Developing Countries and co-Editor-in-Chief of the Information Systems Journal and Information Technology & People. Since 1993, he has published 1 book, 16 book chapters, over 70 journal articles, over 60 conference papers, and edited 6 special issues of journals. His current research focuses on Knowledge Seeking and Sharing activities in Chinese SMEs. He also participates in debates about research methods.
