How to Protect your Research Interests When Many Require Access to the Research Data? How to Get Help Doing So?

Motto: To prevent the subject of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) becoming a barrier to:

• conducting research
• sharing research data
• valorisation of research data
• control mechanisms for the purpose of scientific integrity

Research requires good research data. Research data are valuable for all partners contributing within the research group, but access claims are increasingly being made from outside the research group. The research data should for example be made available through open access, while the nature of the data does not allow this. Or open access conflicts with research interests. A private funding body may require full access and IPR to research data generated in the funded research, but this requirement could conflict with the interests of research or valorisation.

Workshops
On 2 December, in workshop 1 we will focus on the practical barriers that researchers experience due to conflicting laws, contracts, agreements and licences regarding research data.

In workshop 2 we will be exploring the landscape of present rules and requirements regarding research data, for instance in the recently revised Code of Conduct for Scientific Practice and in the regulations applied by research funding bodies.

In workshop 3 a set of prepared provisions will be presented and discussed, which you may find useful to protect your research interests.
