ERIM re-accredited by KNAW

ERIM has received the official confirmation on re-accreditation by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). ERIM received a very positive peer review report and the KNAW was impressed by the quality of the ERIM research, the ERIM doctoral programme and the ERIM support organisation. The re-accreditation covered the period 2004-2009. The five ERIM research programmes were evaluated by a high calibre international peer review committee on the criteria of Quality, Productivity, Relevance and Viability.

Performance of the research programmes

Overall, scores were excellent. Two of the five ERIM programmes, Marketing and Organisation received the highest grade (5) on both Quality and Productivity; the Logistics and Information Systems and the Strategy programme both scored 4.5 and the Finance & Accounting programme scoring 4.0. The Logistics/IS and Strategy programme stood out in Relevance (5), whereas the other three programmes scored 4.5 on Relevance.

Continued support

Based on this accreditation, the Deans of Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) will again provide substantial support for the new ERIM strategy by for example agreeing to jointly invest in at least 25 new PhD projects each year in the next period towards 2015. The ERIM strategy towards 2015 is dedicated to dual impact research, academic talent development & improved placement of our doctoral candidates, increasing the funding base and full career support for our members.

Looking forward

Marno Verbeek

Marno Verbeek, the new Scientific Director of ERIM and Dean of Research at RSM since July 1, is very satisfied with this re-accreditation.

“It sets the stage for the four key strategic priorities we decided upon to bring ERIM to the next level. We will further strengthen ERIM’s academic performance by investing in a research environment and support structure that attracts, develops and retains top researchers in all career stages. We will further increase the quality and international appeal of the doctoral programme, both towards new doctoral students as towards top business schools that are hiring the new PhD’s. We will further invest in capabilities to broaden and increase the research funding base. And last but not least, we will strengthen ERIM’s visibility and reputation in management practice and society at large."

Ale Smidts

"These major investments by ERIM are only possible because of the enduring and substantive support from the founding schools and the Erasmus University Rotterdam in their joint institute ERIM," continues Verbeek. "Furthermore, I want to thank my predecessor <link people ale-smidts _blank>Ale Smidts for leading the reaccreditation process and getting these excellent results. We can all be very proud of what ERIM has achieved.”
