Professors Jansen and Volberda on Thomson Reuters’ list of most influential scientific minds

According to Thompson Reuters, an influential multinational media and information firm, ERIM Fellows Justin Jansen en Henk Volberda are among “the best and the brightest scientific minds of our time.”

Thomson Reuters has analysed citation data using its Web of Science and InCites platforms, to determine which researchers have had the biggest impact on their peers through their published work between 2002 and 2012.

In the field “Economics and Business”, papers written by Professors Jansen and Volberda rank are “highly cited” – they rank in the top 1% by citations for their field and year of publication.

“It is precisely this type of recognition, recognition by peers, in the form of citations, that makes their status meaningful,” according to Thomson Reuters. “Fellow scientists, through their citations, give credit to these people and their work. […] These researchers are, undoubtedly, among the most influential scientific minds of our time.”

Justin Jansen

<link people justin-jansen _blank>Justin Jansen is Professor of Corporate Entrepreneurship at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). He is intrigued by the notion that most organizations tend to focus on existing businesses and clients, and are not able to break away from existing routines and processes in order to explore into new territories. To what extent are existing firms able to facilitate the emergence of entrepreneurship within their organization and – even more difficult – balance this desire of innovation and change with a continued focus on operational excellence? Professor Jansen’s research provides new insights into the roles of leadership, the organizational design as well as the development of novel capabilities as to improve long-term viability and performance. Professor Jansen’s research on strategic leadership, organizational learning and absorptive capacity, organizational ambidexterity and corporate entrepreneurship has been published in various academic journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management,Journal of Management Studies, Leadership Quarterly, Management Science, Organization Science, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and Strategic Management Journal.

Henk Volberda

Henk W.
