In progress Multi-agent systems for container transportation



Multi-agent systems (MAS) have been an upcoming topic in the eld of logistics, especially in production and transportation. Even though it is promising, not much research has been conducted yet. Implementation of
MAS in logistics has been scarce. In our research, we try to tackle some of the issues MAS has that restricts its use. We will look into the issue of how to combine the solutions from distributed subproblem into a global solution while still being able to guarantee a certain solution quality. Furthermore, we will look at how to deal with incentive problems among agents in MAS. This will be an interdisciplinary study, as we will make use of techniques from several elds, such as game theory, data mining and machine learning, next to multi-agent simulation and optimization techniques from Operations Research. Finally, we have two problem instances from container logistics on which we can test our approach.
