Davide Bavato is a doctoral candidate at the Rotterdam School of Management. He holds a joint master degree in International Business from Stockholm School of Economics and CEMS.
His primary line of research explores the ‘receiving side’ of creativity, how individuals and groups respond to creative ideas, artefacts or behaviors. His dissertation delves into the socio-cognitive factors that influence the evaluation of creativity and the ability to recognize the potential of new opportunities.
PhD Track Exploring the Cognitive and Social Foundations of Idea Evaluations
Dissensus over the merit of an idea is a prevalent, yet largely unacknowledged phenomenon. It is conventionally assumed that creativity is an inherent and stable attribute of an idea, and appropriate individuals can and should consensually measure it. In the present proposal, I critically review the theoretical and empirical underpinnings of such assumptions. Further, I discuss an alternative conceptualization of creativity, which defines it as an emergent state, sensitive to socio-psychological influences and contextual stimuli, and therefore bound to vary. Finally, I propose a series of studies aimed at exploring the antecedents and implications of differences in creativity judgements.
