dr. S.R. (Samer) Abdelnour
I use organization theory and qualitative methods to study topics at the intersection of social enterprise and international development. Current projects explore how post-war enterprise projects with former fighters diffuse societal risk (Blue Nile, Sudan), how the idea sets of would-be entrepreneurs reflect potential paths for economic development (Morocco), and beneficiary perspectives on humanitarian technology (Darfur, Sudan), the production of health policy metrics (global), and how advocacy organizations elevate humanitarian issues (US/global). Since 2006, I have undertaken extensive fieldwork in Sudan and Southern Sudan with displaced communities, former combatants, and the organizations seeking to serve them. A key focus for my current work is 'Humanitarian Technology', funded through a Marie Curie Fellowship (2015-2017).
