Enterprise Information Management: Challenges and Opportunities

Speaker

Abstract

The dynamics of disaggregated value nets, compounded by increasing regulations and data explosion, will require a new approach for management of enterprise information.  This new approach must maintain the business integrity while establishing a framework for breaking down information silos to create a flat enterprise.  Maintaining business integrity requires the management of policy integrity, process integrity and core entities information integrity.   Policies consist of government regulations and rules, but also include business policies and ethical policies.  The framework is based on an enterprise information architecture program with three major elements:  Business (governance and processes), Organization (People and Culture) and Information Technology (Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) enabled architecture). This presentation discusses some of the major challenges that large enterprises face to establish business integrity and an enterprise information architecture program.  The presentation will also discuss emerging opportunities created by enterprise information architecture, Semantic Web, Web 2.0 and Service Oriented Architecture.  The speaker will share some of IBM’s internal business transformation lessons-learned too.
