Abstract
We use an in-depth case study of a large Indonesian property group to explore how an emerging economy firm becomes an institutional entrepreneur at home and subsequently leverages these institutional strategies in similar markets abroad. The paper challenges the tendency in the International Business literature to assume multinationals do and should aim for isomorphism when entering new countries and, in so doing, introduces institutional entrepreneurship as a potential source of competitive advantage for multinationals—especially those emerging from emerging economies. |
