Functional Stupidity in Organization



The presentation challenges the knowledge craze and points at the mixed blessings of thoughtlessness in organizations. People refraining from considering meaningfulness, engaging in critical reflection and asking for justification facilitates the smoothness of working life, e.g. through taking followership positions and enthusiastically accepting branding and vision statements. Stupidity and self-stupidity management is common. The talk is based on Alvesson & Spicer’s 2012 JMS article ‘A Stupidity-Based Theory of Organizations.
