Managing Self-Doubt in Management Academia

Speaker

Abstract

Building up on an essay entitled "The Imposter Syndrome and the Mis-Representation of Self in Academia" (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/joms.12344) and co-authored with Joel Bothello (Concordia), we hope to help our community regain our collective confidence in our own work as academics and our contribution to society. Our hyper-competitive academic life can often be plagued by performance anxieties, and self-doubt, especially for PhD students and junior scholars (but surprisingly not only - even the best of the best academics also experience the imposter syndrome!). But during this time together, I hope we can share our anecdotes, de-dramatize the obstacles we face in our careers, and remind ourselves about what makes academic work so unique and enjoyable.
