Are Accounting Academics Paid Fairly? A Story of Salary, Prestige and Impacts

Speaker

Abstract

We argue that societal-impact-focused accounting scholars are redefining prestige at the university level and that this is evidenced in high salaries being paid for societal impact. Given calls for more societal-impact-focused accounting research, this is encouraging. However, academic-impact-focused scholars continue to receive high salaries, which may be problematic as universities shift to a societal-impact model. We call for a re-examination of salaries based solely on academic impact.
