ERIM welcomes new Members Jolanda Hessels and Gabor Maroti and new Associate Members Martijn van den Assem, Sebastian Gryglewicz, Agnieszka Markiewics, Michel van der Wel, Marieke van der Poel, Peter Neuteboom, Maarten Jennen and Elivira Sojli. In this news item an overview of their current and previous positions.

 

New ERIM Members

 

Jolanda Hessels


ERIM welcomes two new members to the institute. As of December 1, <link people jolanda-hessels _blank>Jolanda Hessels has become an ERIM Member in the field of Entrepreneurship. She is a researcher at EIM Business and Policy Research in Zoetermeer and at the Erasmus School for Economics (ESE). Jolanda is also the project coordinator of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) for the Netherlands.

 

Gabor Maroti

Next, Gabor Maroti has become a member at the Logistics & Information Systems department as of February 1. He obtained his PhD Degree at Technische Universiteit Eindhoven in 2006. In 2008, he has won the INFORMS Franz Edelman Award, together with Leo Kroon, Lex Schrijver and Dennis Huisman, for their research entitled ‘Netherlands Railways: The New Dutch Timetable—the OR Revolution’.

 

Martijn van den Assem

New ERIM Associate Members
At Economic School of Economics (ESE), four new Associate Members has joined the ERIM Fellows & Members team. In November,<link people martijn-van-den-assem _blank> Martijn van den Assem started as an assistant professor at the Finance Section of the Department of Finance and Accounting in the Erasmus School of Economics. He obtained his PhD Degree in 2008 at Erasmus University. His thesis, based on the TV game programme Deal or No Deal, ranks among the most frequently downloaded articles of all times in the field of social sciences from the Internet and it was recently

 

Sebastian Gryglewicz

published in the American Economic Review. Martijn J. van den Assem is a member of the executive board of the Department of Finance.

As of December 2008, Both Sebastian Gryglewicz and Agnieszka Markiewics started as Associate Members at ESE. <link people sebastian-gryglewicz _blank>Sebastian Gryglewicz is Assistant Professor of Corporate Finance. He obtained his PhD Degree in 2008 at CentER, Tilburg University. In that same year he has published an article in the Journal of Ecnomics Dynamics entitled ‘Finite

 

Agnieszka Markiewics

Project Life and Uncertainty Effects on Investment’, together with K.J.M. Huisman and P.M. Kort.

<link people agnieszka-markiewicz _blank>Agnieszka Markiewics obtained her PhD Degree in 2008 at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in International Finance. Her articles have been published in, among others, Journal of Comparative Economics.

 

Michel van der Wel

<link people michel-van-der-wel _blank>Michel van der Wel has become ERIM Associate Member as of January 1. He is an Assistant Professor and has a visiting position at CREATES in Aarhus, Denmark. His main research deals with trading treasuries around releases of macroeconomic news and modeling the term structure of interest rates. Michel finished his PhD at Tinbergen Institute and the VU University Amsterdam in 2008.

 

Marieke van der Poel

<link people marieke-van-der-poel _blank>Marieke van der Poel,who has defended her PhD Thesis in 2008 at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, started as Assistant Professor of Finance as of October 1. Her thesis entitled “Empirical Essays in Corporate Finance and Financial Reporting”. During the PhD period, she held a visiting position at the College of Business, Florida State University, for three months. Marieke’s research interests are in the area of (behavioral) corporate finance and financial reporting. Her work has been presented at several seminars and international conferences. Her teaching experience involves courses in the area of Corporate Finance, both at a bachelor and master level.

 

Peter Neuteboom

As of November 1, <link people peter-neuteboom _blank>Peter Neuteboom has become an ERIM associate member. He is a Senior Researcher of Finance and Real Estate at the Finance Department. He obtained his PhD Degree in 20006 at Delft University of Technology. For his Thesis, he compared mortgage risks in Europe.

 

Maarten Jennen

<link people maarten-jennen _blank>Maarten Jennen also started as of November 1 as an Assistant Professor of Finance and Real Estate. He has defended his PhD Thesis in 2008, at RSM. His PhD trajectory was financially supported by, amongst others, the NVM (a Dutch Commercial Real Estate brokerage association). During his time as a PhD Candidate Maarten spent six months at the National University of Singapore and presented his work at several international conferences and seminars. Furthermore, he currently holds a position as Investment Analyst at the Research and Strategy Department of ING Real Estate.

In December, <link people elvira-sojli _blank>Elivira Sojli joined the Finance Programme as an Assistant Professor of Finance. She obtained her PhD Degree in November 2008 at Warwick Business School in the United Kingdom. Het thesis entitled ‘Essays in Foreign Exchange Microstructure’.
