Stefano Puntoni named among MSI’s top marketing academics

ERIM Fellow Professor Stefano Puntoni from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) is among the 34 top marketing academics selected for the Marketing Science Institute’s first edition of its inaugural MSI Scholars Program. Activities in the programme include opportunities to network with marketing researchers and executives to help bring research into business practice.

The acknowledgement by the Marketing Science Institute (MSI) means Prof. Puntoni joins a select group of high-level academics for a set of initiatives to connect with each other and with prominent businesses. The RSM professor was among the 34 scholars selected for the programme out of the 116 applications from academics who completed their PhD between 10 and 14 years ago.

Excellence in marketing research
“The new MSI Scholars Program was developed to recognise excellence in marketing scholarship, develop a cohort across marketing disciplines, and strengthen ties between scholars and MSI,” said Prof. Carl Mela, executive director at MSI and professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
“These scholars are among the most prominent marketing scholars in the world, and we look forward to their ideas about setting the agenda for the field and helping to bridge the gap between research and practice,” Prof. Mela said.
The 2018 MSI Scholars list represents 34 marketing professors from prominent universities including Columbia University, MIT, Stanford University, London Business School, UCLA, National University of Singapore and Yale University.

Bringing research into practice
As part of the programme, the MSI Scholars Conference will bring together a select group of mid-career level academics for a multi-day retreat to recognise their excellence, to develop a cohort across marketing disciplines, and to strengthen ties between scholars and MSI. The four-day conference will be held in Breckenridge, Colorado in July 2018.
The top scholars are already helping to set the research agenda for the field; as MSI scholars, they will contribute to advancing MSI’s mission of supporting academic research that is relevant and can be put into practice.

Societal relevance
“The recognition and retreat mean I can network with amazing academics and meet MSI member companies,” says Prof. Puntoni. “I’m looking forward to explore whether there is a good fit between their priorities and our research interests. I hope something interesting can come out of those discussions.”
Prof. Puntoni says he’s honoured to receive such an important recognition for the quality of RSM’s research. “In my work, I always strive for both academic rigour and societal relevance. RSM shares this commitment to positive change through excellent research achievements. This recognition represents the amazing work and support from RSM’s Department of Marketing Management.”
Professor Puntoni was also selected for the MSI Young Scholars Program in 2011.
