Bart Kuipers about the importance of the Suez Canal

The unrest in Egypt continues. As the Suez canal has been of inestimable value to the economy for many years the current developments are bound to have an impact.   However, the Suez Canal is not essential for shipping. Bart Kuipers, senior research manager Port Economics with RHV BV (Regional Economy, Port- and Transporteconomy), addresses the problems at BNR. He can also be heard in the live broadcast of RTL Z. 'The large container ships do have a somewhat longer sailing time but they are not entirely dependent of the Suez Canal,"   De enorme schepen met containers die moeten omvaren hebben wel een iets langere vaartijd, maar strikt afhankelijk van het Suez-kanaal zijn ze niet,'  according to Kuipers.
