NWO Grants New ECBI Project

On June 28, the department of Physical Sciences (EW) of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) announced that an ECBI research project has been granted funding in the first round of the Free Competition 2010. The project proposal "Financial Events Recognition in News for Algorithmic Trading" by dr. Flavius Frasincar and Prof. dr. ir. Uzay Kaymak is one of the 24 accepted research proposals out of the 90 submitted proposals. Frederik Hogenboom, an Economics & Informatics graduate student, will be assigned to the project. 

NWO funds thousands of top researchers at universities and institutes and steers the course of Dutch science by means of subsidies and research programmes. The NWO-EW Free Competition is intended for top innovative and risky fundamental research proposals that have a high scientific or practical urgency and that are significant for at least one of the disciplines of astronomy, computer science, or mathematics.
