Maritime and Port-related Big Data Applications
By contrast, the widespread implementation of the automatic identification system (AIS) has led to a massive, near real time data generation of ships locations. The data can be relatively easily accessed and be used to address a range of questions when combined with other data sources. This lunch seminar will outline the various dimensions of Big data and present examples of maritime and port-related applications. Specifically, it will illustrate the use of these data to support loading decisions and infer about emission patterns, and will conclude with a sketch of project that aims to dynamically indicate port congestion.
