Life at Erasmus University

Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is an international spawning ground for critical academic thinking, driven by a strong focus on current social issues.

Rooted in the business community

The history of the university dates back to 1913, when Rotterdam merchants founded the Netherlands School of Commerce, a university of professional trade education. Our founders regarded proper education and development of generations to come the key to ensuring that the port and city would continue to flourish. Today, EUR is a breeding ground for new talent and a magnet for companies that want to recruit high calibre staff.

Ever since its founding, EUR has been improving its education and research which has lead to worldwide renown. The work of Nobel Prize laureate Jan Tinbergen (1903-1994) is just one example.
