A Systems Perspective on Standardisation in Technological Innovation

Speaker

Abstract

Despite increasing roles of standardisation in technological innovation, there remain significant challenges for standards organisations to support timely and effective standardisation, due to complexities and varieties associated with dynamics between standardisation and innovation. In addition, modern technologies are becoming more complex, interdisciplinary, and fast-evolving at the same time, calling for a more systematic, coherent, and future-oriented approach to standardisation.

A novel standardisation mapping framework is thus developed, by identifying important dimensions of standardisation through comprehensive review of literature, and integrating them with a holistic and integrated framework of strategic roadmapping. The proposed framework is expected to help standards organisations and policymakers anticipate future standardisation needs and develop relevant strategies, supporting technological innovation more effectively.
