Improving Healthcare Supply Chains in Developing Countries

Speaker

Abstract

Improving access to medicines, vaccines, and diagnostics to underserved patient populations in both developed and developing countries remains one of the world’s greatest healthcare challenges. From raw material/API sourcing to manufacturing, distribution, and guaranteeing quality compliance-each segment of this system needs to be designed to balance the tradeoffs between availability, affordability, and quality. The design and operation of the sub-systems in the healthcare supply chain with scarce resources presents several interesting OR/OM problems. This talk provides an overview of 3-4 OR/OM research projects which have contributed to direct policy impact in this area in the last decade.
