Consumer Behavior Summer School

Summer School

Aims

  1. Expose students to the main theoretical and substantive research areas conducted in consumer behavior research.
  2. Provide students with a strong foundation for critical thinking in the area of consumer behavior.
  3. Provide insight into how a consumer behavior paper is written.

Information

The course will be taught using a seminar structure.  Each lecture will be divided into two parts. During the first half of the lecture we will focus on discussing assigned readings to both gain an understanding of foundational areas in consumer behavior and to develop critical thinking skills. In the second half of each lecture we will turn our focus to future research. To achieve this, students will submit three short thought papers that propose a new research question, that they will share with the class and which we will discuss and further develop. Throughout the course, insights into writing a consumer behavior paper will be shared including such topics as generating research ideas, motivating and positioning the work, and articulating contributions.

Assessment

Pass/fail will be based on performance in three domains. The percentages below show the importance of each of these three components.

Thought papers (3 @ 5% each) - 15%

Class Participation/Preparation - 35%

Research Proposal - 50%

Materials

The reading list will be available on Canvas.
