How to apply?


Applications can be submitted in our application portal which will open on January 15th 2025 and closed on the 15th of March 2025.

An application should consist of the following documents:

  • A motivation letter: why you want to do a PhD and why you chose ERIM. Describe relevant educational and professional background and elaborate your desired research area. 

  • 1 page research proposal of the type of research questions and methodologies you intend to employ, either as a sketch or specific questions. State if data comes from your current employer or your research is related to your current profession. If interested in Economics at ESE, please coordinate it with your intended supervisors. 

  • Proof of academic writing in English: a chapter of your master thesis, a paper, or a research proposal. 

  • Proof of your English proficiency; TOEFL (minimum 100) or IELTS (minimum 7.5) no older than two years. 

  • Certified BSc diploma(s) and grade list(s). 

  • Certified MSc or MBA diploma(s) and grade list(s). To be eligible for consideration, you must have completed a degree with a written thesis. 

  • CV 

  • (Optional) Your intended supervisor(s) if you have already contacted RSM or ESE faculty, the admissions committee may contact them for a recommendation. 

  • (Optional) GMAT/GRE results. 

  • (Optional) If you are applying for a tuition fee waiver, please explain why you cannot pay through your own resources, give a summary of funding options already explored, and the societal value of your PhD research.
