Frequently Asked Questions
Until when can I apply?
The application deadline for academic year 2018-2019 is 1 May 2018 for EU and non-EU citizens. If you can’t meet the deadline, please contact ERIM Doctoral Office for personal advice.
Am I required to submit GMAT or GRE test results?
Yes. A GMAT or GRE is required for all applicants to the programme.
Can I replace a GMAT/GRE test by a similar kind of test taken at my university or at the ministry of education of my country?
No. We only accept GMAT and GRE tests.
The bachelor/master programme(s) I have followed was/were taught in English. Do I still need to submit a TOEFL/IELTS test?
If the language of instruction of your pre-university education was English, you do not need to submit TOEFL/IELTS scores. You’ll have to provide us with a copy of relevant documents and a TOEFL/IELTS waiver request. Chinese applicants always have to submit an IELTS or a TOEFL internet-based test (see Nuffic website for more information).
Do you accept English proficiency tests other than TOEFL/IELTS?
We also accept CPE (Cambridge Proficiency English) and CAE (Cambridge Advanced English) certificates. Chinese applicants always need an IELTS or a TOEFL internet-based test to come to study in the Netherlands (see Nuffic website for more information).
Do you accept the TOEFL ITP test?
No. We accept the TOEFL iBT, TOEFL PBT (only where the TOEFL iBT is not available) or the IELTS Academic test.
Can I apply for a waiver from GMAT/GRE and TOEFL/IELTS?
We don’t give GMAT/GRE waivers. However, it’s possible to apply for a waiver from TOEFL/IELTS if your pre-university education was given in English. In this case please enclose an extra letter with your motivation to your application. Do not forget to enclose relevant documents. Chinese applicants always need an IELTS or a TOEFL internet-based test to obtain a Nuffic certificate to study in the Netherlands (view Nuffic website for more information).
My country does not have a GMAT/GRE office or the tests are fully booked for the coming months. Do I still have to submit the test?
Yes. You may have to travel to another country to take the test.
My official GMAT/GRE report could only be available shortly after the application deadline. Is that a problem?
The official results take approximately 3 weeks to become available. However, the preliminary test results are available immediately after the test. You can submit these preliminary results to the ERIM office before you receive the official results. That would help us with the pre-assessment of your application package.
Are there minimum requirements for GMAT/GRE and TOEFL/IELTS tests?
We expect applicants to have GMAT/GRE scores of above 85% and a good command of English. The expected score for internet-based TOEFL is 100, for paper-based TOEFL 600 and for IELTS 7.5.
How do I obtain certified copies of my diplomas and transcripts?
A certified copy can be made by your university, a notary, a sworn translator or at a City Hall.
Can I apply for a scholarship?
ERIM offers a limited amount of subsistence allowances to the highest achieving applicants. The allowance is sufficient to cover the costs of living in the Netherlands for one year.
ERIM also offers reduced tuition fees to several high performing non-EEA students. Instead of paying €17,300 per year for tuition fee, you will have to pay € 2,006.
If you’d like to apply for the above mentioned financial support, you have to submit a motivation letter for financial support with the rest of your online application package.
Decisions on granting the reduced tuition fee are made after your application package is viewed and you’ve already been accepted. Decisions on the subsistence allowances are made after the application deadline.
In your second year as an ERIM Research Master student, you can apply for the Personal Research Assistantship (PRA). This isn’t only financial support, but also allows you to work closely with ERIM’s best researchers.
I will officially complete my bachelor degree after the application deadline. Can I still apply?
Yes. You must submit your most recent preliminary official list of grades instead of the final one.
Could you return my documents when I do not get accepted to the programme?
No. ERIM will not return any documents included in your application package. Never send original diplomas or transcripts. Your application, including certified copies of your diplomas and transcripts, will become property of Erasmus University Rotterdam.
Is my educational background sufficient for the Research Master in Business and Management?
To enter the ERIM Research Master, you’re required to hold at least a three-year Dutch Bachelor of Science/Arts degree or its international equivalent. Two-year bachelor degrees aren’t sufficient. For individual inquiries please contact the ERIM Doctoral Office.
I have a Dutch HBO-diploma. Can I enter the programme?
No. Holders of a Dutch HBO-diploma should obtain a university bachelor degree first in order to be eligible for the ERIM Research Master programme.
