Service Time Variance Modeling in Autonomous Vehicle Storage and Retrieval System Cycle Time Estimation

Speaker

Abstract

A GI/G/V queuing model is proposed for estimating autonomous vehicle storage and retrieval (AVSR) cycle times as a function of the major variables defining a storage system configuration. The proposed approach improves on existing system time models by explicitly considering the analytical form of the variability associated with vehicle and lift service times in the estimation of transaction waiting times. The results of simulation validation studies suggest that the analytical model yields significant improvements over standard approximations for non-Poisson queuing systems. The application of the model is illustrated through a realistically sized warehouse configuration design problem.
