Age, age diversity, and knowledge transfer in organizations

Abstract

Due to demographic change, workforces in industrialized economies are getting older and ever more age-diverse. Therefore, human resource managers need to find ways to engage age-diverse employees with potentially different motives, enable effective interactions among age-diverse coworkers to yield the benefits of their diverse experiences and knowledge, and ensure that valuable knowledge of older workers is secured within the organization before they enter retirement. In her talk, Anne Burmeister will present her research on age, age diversity, and knowledge transfer, and discuss knowledge transfer between age-diverse employees as an opportunity for human resource managers to address the challenges that are associated with demographic change. Anne's research informs research and practice on knowledge management and diversity management --two major tasks of effective human resource management.
