Making Memorable Cases Using Controversy

Speaker

Abstract

In the aftermath of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook suffered a drop in brand value, reputation, and trust. Paradoxically, user base for a long while continued to grow as did financial performance. Drawing on relevant academic concepts, the case impels students to reflect on the paradoxes confronting Facebook as the ramifications of the scandal unraveled. It allows students to analyze Facebook's actions and critically think what Facebook should have done to address its reputation crisis, and how it can do to reconcile its commercial and societal interests as well as to rebuild its reputation. More information: Vidhi is the author of the case Facebook’s Reputation: Trials & Tribulations, a case about the aftermath of Facebook’s data breach scandal. During this brown bag seminar Vidhi will be sharing insights on her journey of discovery while writing a case that deals with a complex and multi-faceted topic with ever-growing materials. The case was written as a collaboration between EUR schools (ESHCC, RSM, and CLI) and involves several faculty members. The challenges and benefits of this collaboration aspect will be addressed in the seminar. Besides, a MOOC was developed based on her case, about which Vidhi will be sharing her experience regarding the process. Come hear Vidhi's story, and discuss tips & tricks with other teachers and writers!
