Leo Kroon and team receive SUR Award from IBM
For their innovative research in public transport, IBM will donate a Strategic University Relationship (SUR) Award to <link people leo-kroon>Professor Leo Kroon and his team.
IBM considers the group’s research as fitting in their search for Smarter Railroads, which is part of their Smarter Planet initiative. The goal of Smarter Railroads is to create faster, safer and more profitable rail systems through embedded intelligence, analytics and optimization.
The SUR Award consists of an amount of money that can be used for research purposes – preferably but not necessarily in cooperation with IBM.
Current projects
Current research by Professor Kroon and his team include:
- Optimal Networks for Train Integration Management across Europe (ON TIME): an EU-funded research project that aims at a step-change in railway capacity by reducing delays and improving traffic fluidity
- Complexity in Public Transport (ComPuTr): a NWO-funded research project that studies the complexity of passenger behaviour in public transport, specifically in disruption management and revenue management
