RSM Case Development Centre launches new website with interactive catalogue

Whether you are searching for fresh teaching cases or need help writing one yourself, the RSM Case Development Centre is at your service. It has just launched a new website, making it easy to browse through their catalogue and providing up-to-date information on upcoming workshops and other forms of case writing support.

Case development

“Our main task is to write teaching cases and teaching notes,” says Tao Yue, who is a senior case writer at the RSM Case Development Centre. While you can buy cases from Harvard Business School when you need teaching cases, there is a definite advantage in using your own. Mrs Yue: “When you use cases about the companies you are studying for your research, you will be able to relate theory to cases you are deeply familiar with.”

The RSM Case Development Centre also develops cases in cooperation with RSM’s Executive Education and MBA programmes, and with external companies. “Basically, we cover all areas of business and management,” Mrs Yue says.

To those who want to develop their own cases, the RSM Case Development Centre offers guided case writing. Mrs Yue: “If RSM staff or PhD candidates want to write a teaching case, we can help them by discussing their ideas, choosing an angle, reviewing their draft and editing the case until it can be published.”

The centre also organises a yearly case writing workshop, which equips its participants with the skills to write their own cases quickly and effectively. The next edition will probably take place in May.

The resulting cases are published with renowned publishers of teaching cases. “Most of our cases are published with The Case Centre – formerly known as the European Case Clearing House,” Mrs Yue explains. “In addition, we’ve started publishing cases with Ivey Publishing – the most important publisher of cases in North America.”

New website

If you’re looking for ready-to-use teaching cases, you can use the interactive catalogue on the RSM Case Development Centre’s new website. Mrs Yue: “We have a collection of over 70 cases. You can browse through them by keyword, industry, or area of study.” This functionality is made possible through a connection with Erasmus University’s repository RePub, where all the cases and their metadata are stored. If you decide to buy a case, the site will refer you to its external publisher.

The new website also offers glimpses behind the scenes of particular cases and their writers. For example, there is an article about <link research centres case-development-centre features detail>Professor Jan van den Ende and his teaching case on service innovation at IBM.

Finally, the website offers practical information about guided case writing, upcoming workshops, competitions, and the contact details of the case development team.
