ERIM Research Clinic: Executive Compensation

Speaker

Abstract

The first part of this lecture is an introduction to research on executive pay. We will review some important stylized facts, the main research questions in this field, and some of the answers to them. In the second part, I will present some results of an ongoing research project on executive compensation. In this project, we review several recent proposals to limit CEO pay and ask how firms would react to them if the proposals were put into practice. We find that firms can easily avoid some restrictions while they might suffer severely from other restrictions.
