Abstract
Evolutionary accounts of change need to incorporate the bases of processes of variation, selection and retention. While we have rich and powerful conceptions of these processes at the population level, change at the organizational level has not generally been developed in this manner. We develop and explore a structure that provides a minimalist representation of the internal ecology of organizations with particular attention to the selectability and value of a possible “plasticity” trait or gene. In so doing, we are able to consider the dynamics of organizational evolution, a property that is not well captured by a consideration of the properties of individual organizational components or capabilities. | ![]() |
