Dean Erasmus School of Economics receives Thai honorary doctorate



Professor Franses honoured for meritorious performance in econometrics

 

 

Professor Philip Hans Franses, professor of Applied Econometrics and Marketing, dean of the Erasmus School of Economics, was awarded an honorary doctorate by Chiang Mai University, one of the largest universities of Thailand. Franses is the first Dutchman to receive a Thai honorary doctorate.

The doctorate was granted by the crown princess Maha Chakri, daughter of the king of Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Franses was given an address by Professor Pisit Leeahtam, dean of the economic faculty of Chiang Mai University: "His thoughtfulness and friendship created a very close relationship with the Chiang Mai University, the employees of the faculty, and its students. In particular the team of professors of the department of economics with whom he worked together on a regular basis."

About Professor Franses

As a professor of econometrics Franses plays an important role in the academic world. His main field of research revolves around the optimisation of models in order to forecast economic developments. In 2011 he was appointed member of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen (Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences). This was his first honorary doctorate. Franses is often highlighted both in national and international media to present his view on economic prospects.
