Nominations for the ERIM Awards 2023 are currently closed.

Below, you will find the rules for the ERIM Awards and nomination criteria for the following awards being presented in December 2023:


Rules

  • Eligibility: ERIM Members, ERIM Associate Members, ERIM Fellows, and ERIM full-time and part-time PhD candidates are eligible for the awards mentioned above. *
  • Selection process: Once a year, recipients of the awards will be selected based on the qualification criteria. In each category, the nominee who best meets the criteria will be chosen. The award can be shared by multiple researchers. The Scientific Director of ERIM makes the final decision on the award recipients, considering recommendations from independent juries and, when required, domain experts.
  • Nominations: Self-nominations and nominations (with motivations) can be submitted via a webform by any ERIM Member or ERIM Fellow.
  • Awards and recognition: The awards are presented in the form of a plaque for each winner. The winner of the ERIM Award for Outstanding Performance by a Young Researcher will receive a €2000 pecuniary incentive allocated to their research budget.

Open Science Award

This award recognises researchers who have embraced open science principles and practices. It celebrates those who promote transparency, reproducibility, and accessibility in their work, fostering collaboration and advancing scientific knowledge.
Award criteria include:

  • Application of open science: Demonstrating significant efforts to implement open science principles and practices (see this paper for more information).
  • Accessibility of research: Taking concrete steps to make research instruments, data, code, and results available to interested parties, including the scientific community and potentially the general public.

Positive interactions and impact: Showing evidence of positive interactions with the aforementioned audiences, such as instrument and data reuse, replications, downloads, citations, and commentaries.

Top Article Award

This award recognises excellent research in management. It acknowledges exceptional studies and honours researchers who have published influential work in prestigious journals in the field of management or an adjacent discipline, demonstrating their potential to make a significant scholarly and societal impact.

The criteria for the award include:

  • Journal publication: The nominated article must be published in a P* or equivalent top-tier journal in 2022.
  • Novelty and methodological approach: Nominators should highlight the article's novel theoretical ideas and methodological approach (if applicable).
  • Scholarly and societal relevance: Nominators should consider the potential relevance of the work in terms of its scholarly contributions and impact on society.

The award is open to ERIM PhD students or ERIM Members who are the lead author of the nominated publication.

Outstanding Performance by a Young Researcher Award

This award recognises an early-stage researcher who is an ERIM Member or ERIM Associate Member. The award aims to honour exceptional young researchers who have made significant contributions to their field and have the potential to shape the future of research, management, and society.

The award criteria include:

  • Academic quality: Demonstrating excellence in research.
  • Originality: Exhibiting novel and innovative approaches.
  • Implications for management and society: Contributing to practical and societal impact.

Eligible nominees must be ERIM Members or ERIM Associate Members who received their PhD within the past six years. A recent CV is required. Previous nominees meeting the criteria can be nominated again.

ERIM Full-Time Dissertation Award

This award recognises the best dissertation in the ERIM Full-Time PhD Series in Business & Management, defended in 2022.

The criteria for the award include:

  • Independence and novelty: Reflecting on the nominee's ability to demonstrate independence and present original ideas in their dissertation.
  • Methodological approach: Assessing the nominee's use of innovative and rigorous methodologies in their research.
  • Publications and citations: Considering the nominee's publication and citation record up to the point of nomination.
  • Quality of first placement: Evaluating the quality of the nominee's first professional placement after completing their PhD.

While a Cum Laude distinction is not mandatory for nomination, it serves as valuable evidence of the candidate's qualities and will be taken into consideration.

ERIM Part-Time Dissertation Award

This award recognises the best dissertation in the ERIM Part-Time PhD Series in Business & Management, defended from 2018 through 2022.

Criteria for the award include:

  • Independence and novelty: Reflecting on the nominee's ability to demonstrate independence and present original ideas in their dissertation.
  • Methodological approach: Assessing the nominee's use of innovative and rigorous methodologies in their research.
  • Societal engagement and impact: Emphasizing evidence of societal engagement during the research process and valorisation, as well as the impact resulting from their research.

While a Cum Laude distinction is not mandatory for nomination, it serves as valuable evidence of the candidate's qualities and will be taken into consideration.
