Tobias Brandt is Assistant Professor of Business Information Management at the Department of Technology and Operations Management at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.

Tobias' research investigates the digital transformation of the city. He particularly focuses on smart power systems, innovative urban mobility solutions, and an improved understanding of the dynamics of urban tourism and crime. Tobias' work has received best paper awards at both the International Conference on Information Systems and the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences and he has published in leading journals, such as the Journal of Management Information Systems, Information & Management, and the European Journal of Information Systems. His research on urban mobility and spatial analytics has been supported by two Microsoft Azure for Research Awards and an IBM Faculty Award.

Before joining RSM, Tobias received his PhD from the University of Freiburg, Germany, from which he also holds a diploma degree in economics. He has been a visiting scholar with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory on multiple occasions, as well as with the University of Texas at Austin. Tobias is also co-founder of the urban data science startup Geospin, in which he continues to be involved. During the course of his career, Tobias has been involved in data science projects with a variety of industry partners, including Siemens, Bosch, and ZF.
