How Fast do People Work Under Load?

Speaker

Abstract

We will investigate the relationship between processing times and process load. Most queuing models assume processing times are independent of process load. Models without the independence assumption exist and more can be built. However we have very little theory or information about what common dependent relationships should be modeled. We will examine published papers with empirical data that demonstrate or hypothesize how service times change as a function of system load. Most of these reactions are behavioral in nature. Each student will prepare one paper from an established list to present to the workshop. We will discuss the merit, applicability and generalizability of the relationships.
